Welsh Climate Week

An annual event that aims to bring people together to discuss and promote action on climate change in Wales. A fun two days of descussion.

We’re thrilled to share that our #WalesClimateWeek 2024 fringe event – Reducing the Increasing Risk of Flooding and Erosion, held on the 2nd and 3rd of December, was a great success!

A big thank you to the University of South Wales and Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government for giving me the opportunity to host this important conversation.

Huge appreciation goes to our brilliant speakers: Leshan Uggalla (USW), Shiny Verghese (USW), Andrew Sowerby (Director, Silviculture), Sarah Jeremiah (Manager, External Engagement, Enterprise & Engagement, USW), Doan Nguyen Luyen Phuong (Researcher, Institute for Climate Change), Nguyen Duc Trung (Vietnam – Climate Negotiator and #COP29 participant), and Lee Ramsay (Director Development, Suremark). Your insights and dedication helped shape meaningful dialogue around the growing challenges of flooding and erosion in Wales.

We’re also grateful to our engaged attendees, including: Aaron Chiwoko – AMIChemE, Princess Vivian Onyeanusi (MBA), Ben Powel (Woop Woop), Lara Hopkinson (Senior Lecturer, Wales Trinity Saint David and Cardiff University) who joined virtually with her students, Andy Schofield (Natural Resources Wales and Director, Environmental Platform Wales), Louise Bright (Pro Vice-Chancellor, USW), Chris Rees (representing Meteomatics), Bolaji Audu (University of South Wales PGR Student Community), and Ken Moon (SPAD to Heledd Fychan MS from Plaid). Thank you for your thoughtful questions, enthusiasm, and participation — you helped make the event dynamic and thought-provoking.

This event was a collaborative effort, and it’s clear that by coming together, we’re helping to build the knowledge and networks needed to strengthen climate resilience in Wales. We hope the conversations started here continue to inspire action, spark innovation, and shape a sustainable future for our communities and environment.

Thank you again to everyone involved — let’s keep the momentum going!
